Reading Light

Words can turn a light on in the soul.

A corner of unseen darkness is vanquished when an insight shared by a writer is transmuted into an epiphany in me, the reader.

Sometimes it’s a brand new thought. Or it’s an unveiling of some distant knowing.

While these moments are not earth-shattering for the woman or man who sits a world away, they are a cracking of sorts. As Leonard Cohen’s song Anthem  says, “there is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.”

Our mistakes, our learning, our cracking — they all let the light in.

Reason enough to exhale a little.
