This morning on the hiking trail, I saw a girl whose t-shirt read: WORK OF ART.
I smiled at her and then to myself.
That little message contains a lot: moxy, strength, humor.
What if we approached each day with the belief that we are a work of art? That we are a work in progress. That we are a thing of beauty. That in this very moment, this work is something to behold. That leaving it alone is exactly how it ought to be right now. That in the next moment we may choose to give a bit more energy here or a bit less worry there–and then that product too will be artful. That the product on a given day may be messy but it is whole.
We are the expression of our evolving self, inwardly and outwardly.
This makes me think of a beautiful quote I saw attributed to photographer Ansel Adams:
“Life is your art. An open, aware heart is your camera. A oneness with your world is your film. Your bright eyes, your easy smile is your museum.”
What will you do with your personal canvas today?
Thanks Steph! I’m on vacation via your blog. Travel safe.
